Eureka High School—Eureka, MO

When Eureka High School decided to add a large STEM addition to the campus, the school district knew that terrazzo was the top choice for flooring. Epoxy terrazzo now covers 8,900 sq. ft. of the addition, and other state-of-the-art, eye-catching upgrades were made to the existing 112-year-old campus.

When commenting on the project, Kevin Rickman from Missouri Terrazzo said:

“Terrazzo continues to be timeless, elegant and extremely durable. The Eureka High School project exemplifies the quality craftsmanship the North Central Terrazzo Association expects from our tradesmen.”

What did the Project Entail?

The project space was comprised of two stories with a balcony that overlooked the terrazzo lobby and logo. Along with the poured-in-place steps, pre-cast tread and risers were installed on the main stairs from the first to the second floor. Additionally, there is an intermediate landing with pre-cast and a plinth and pre-cast bench under the staircase. The new epoxy floor was selected by the architect because of its durability and timelessness.

About the Design

The project design used 6 colors. Four were used in the main terrazzo design, and another two were used in the logo depicting the school mascot and colors. The pattern utilized 2′ 3″ bands throughout and numerous divider strips were used. They were cut to size to adjoin tightly with each other. The project also included poured-in-place steps, a ramp, and platforms that showcased the craftsmanship and skills of Kevin and his team.

Final Thoughts

The entire space was hand-troweled, ground, grouted, and polished, resulting in a flawless finished project. All parties, including the owner, architect, and Kevin and his team were extremely pleased with the final product. The faculty were excited to teach their students in the new building and enjoyed the updated features.
