Godfrey Hotel Detroit
Michielutti Bros., Inc. • Eastpointe, MI
Nestled in Detroit’s vibrant nightlife district, the Godfrey Hotel offers a sophisticated blend of modern design and Corktown’s historic industrial charm. The interior features Venetian terrazzo with warm tones and brass accents, lending a sense of heft and permanence.
The terrazzo’s texture creates a striking contrast between the light matrix and darker aggregates, enhancing the visual appeal. An unconventional deeper-than-standard epoxy matrix accommodates larger aggregates, ensuring perfect chip nesting, minimal slab depression, and reduced grinding waste.

At the main entrance, brass inlays of sea animals enrich the aesthetic and symbolize the geological flow of the nearby Red Cedar River. Mirrored ceilings under pedestrian bridges reflect the terrazzo floor below, adding depth and visual interest.
Strategic expansion joints seamlessly connect the new terrazzo with existing installations, merging form and function beautifully. This thoughtful design enhances the overall aesthetic while ensuring structural integrity.
