Terrazzo provides the perfect balance of cost-effective maintenance and flexible design for municipal projects like police and fire stations. It’s especially good for projects that need LEED-certified green building design and construction practices. Here’s an example:

The Public Building Commission of Chicago (PBC), dedicated to LEED construction, routinely specifies terrazzo in its municipal and school building designs, in part because terrazzo is easier to maintain, with lower maintenance and replacement costs over other flooring choices.

As the PBC’s announcement for the new Chicago Police stations states, the new building “is easier to clean and maintain with finished brick masonry exterior and an interior of burnished block and terrazzo flooring in the traditional Chicago Police Department motif and colors.”
